About the Class:

Over the five weeks, we will explore various textile techniques to create decorative backgrounds that are ready for further embellishment, as well as standalone pieces. In addition, we will use stitching as a form of mark-making to enhance the work.

The techniques we will cover include different methods for patching fabrics together, as well as appliqué and stitching techniques such as free motion, boro, and embroidery used as mark-making. We will explore shape, form, and how to create depth in images.

The course is suitable for beginners or intermediates who wish to create alongside others in a relaxed, supportive environment. If you have a sewing machine to bring with you, this is ideal, though hand sewing will also be suitable.

A selection of fabric and specialist materials will be provided, but please bring your cotton and your own tools such as scissors, a ruler, chalk, needles, pins, and alike. You are also welcome to bring your own fabric selection if you prefer certain styles or colours. Individual coloured or patterned fabric pieces need to be no larger than 20 x 20 cm, so you can bring scraps and offcuts.

Suitable for complete beginners and beyond.

What’s Included:

  • A selection of fabric and specialist materials for techniques.

  • Qualified and experienced Tutor.

  • You will be greeted with a hot tea or coffee and biscuits.

  • A fridge is available for your own snacks if needed
